I would value your thoughts on any of this.

I'm sorry to take so long to respond. I have been so focused on these Bible Apps, that it's hard to pull away from that work to answer questions. And, I value each and every question, so I hate it when I take so long to repsond. It has just been extra hard for the past few weeks.

So my thought is to both read it and listen to it this cycle. I usually read in the morning and listen I. The evening so these are complimentary. I will read the New Living because Ibfindnit both clear and accurate. No translation is perfect. I think it will be a nice companion to the KJV.

I also realized that I should do the readings in the form of a Hebrew day. That is, listen to the KJV in the evening and then read the NLT the next morning.

I very much like reading the same passage more than once while reading the Bible, so I am excited about this approach.

You should always read the version that helps you the most. The NLT has more errors than many Bible translations, but if that helps you read more easily... then go for it. Another version that's easy to read and free is the World English Bible. I just don't know how accurate it is.

Brother John,

Once again I wish that I still have an Android phone!

I agree completely about the importance of reading the whole Bible continuously. Our current church is looking at the Pentateuch and it is clear that they don’t haven’t read the Old Testament a bunch of times. It offers so much to inform our faith as Christians. As Jesus says in His prayer for all believers: eternal life is this; to know the Father and to know Jesus.

It takes me three years to read the Bible typically. I do it different ways for each cycle. For this cycle, I have been following the universal church’s three year cycle. There are parts of it that I have appreciated but I can’t wait to experience the whole thing in its entirety and not just the highlights from across it. So I am looking forward to the Spring when I get to do it differently.

I love hearing the Bible read. I think that it was mostly written to be heard. But my favorite version (nothing compares, really) is Alexander Scourby reading the King James. But, he is a classically trained actor; the KJV has a different grammar and vocabulary; and I am pretty sure that the sped it up to get it into fewer albums or cassette tapes. All that to say, I miss a certain amount of it when I listen to it.

Hi Jeff,

Yes, Scourby was awesome. By the way, you can get the audio to play at a slower speed, depending on the device you use. There is a great website that allows you to listen to many different versions of the Bible, including the KJV, it's here:

I hope that site helps.

Yours in Christ,
